Annual Youth & Family Summit
The Youth and Parent Summit is a three-day event held each June and sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and the Partnership for People with Disabilities. Youth with disabilities from across the Commonwealth meet at James Madison University to network and discuss important issues together.
Youth and families learn about three key components of self-determination: Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness. Youth attend hands-on sessions to understand these three components, how to put them into practice, and how to keep growing in each area.
Parents attend separate tailored sessions around the same components, and will also learn about resources and agencies available to families in Virginia. Learn more about what parents/guardians do at the Summit.
Accepted families receive free meals and lodging (dorm rooms) during the event, as well as mileage reimbursement. Learn more about event logistics.
